Hunting in the wilds of the mountains and back country is not for everyone, but for many it is a way of putting much needed supplies in the freezer every year to supplement the rising cost of food. Meat can be very expensive to purchase from stores and no matter what anyone thinks, purchasing plant produce is high too. As supplies become harder to keep in stock and the cost is getting higher than the quality of the meat that is for sale, it is a great way to provide an organically raised meat animal and maintain wild life control.

If you are going to become a hunter, you have to be ready for that first shot with the right weapon of choice and the resulting blood. There will be a lot and you may have to use a second shot up close to make sure the animal is not going to suffer in any way.

Starting with the weapon, you can use a firearm or bow and arrow for hunting in most states. Learn to use your weapon first and how to target in to the spot you need to hit. If you hit the right spot on the animal you will drop it lifeless with no suffering. You do not want the animal to be wounded only enough to run off and bleed to death somewhere. If this happens, you can track the animal and carry it on a long trek back. If you do not find the animal, either it will heal for the next season or it will be eaten by other predators.

Once you are practiced that can hit your target every time, it is then time to learn the laws of your state for the required hunting. You will need to qualify and purchase a hunting license for the animal you are going to hunt. One of the most common are deer. They reproduce quickly and abundantly, so hunting keeps their population under control. If the population is not kept under control, they can over produce for the area and end up starving to death during the following winter. It is a waste of wild life and a waste of good meat that can provide for a family.

You must hunt within the region your license of for. It will restrict the amount of land you are allowed to hunt in. You cannot go from one large area to another without the proper license. Do not worry; you will have plenty of room. Some states require an age limit for hunting and others will require a certain level of weapon for hunting wild game. Be sure you are hunting within the right season for the animal you are licensed for. If you are caught hunting out of season, even one day, it will result in a large fine, loss of the animal and confiscation of your weapon. It is costly, so do not do it.

Other animals that are hunted for food are moose, bear, turkey, pheasant, boar and many others. Once you have your animal, either butcher it correctly or take it to a professional meat cutter. It is worth the money you pay and in the end you still save a lot from buying already processed meat. Hunting is a great way to add to the feast and save on the budget.
