How long can you keep your trapping scents before they go bad?
We bought some scents for trapping a few years back. I am using a fox gland lure and a skunk based call lure, these are mainly for red fox trapping, but we also go after pine martin (north american sable). I am curious as to if they will still properly work after being 3 years old. We kept them in storage at about room temperature during the non-trapping season months, in case that would have an effect. Should i keep with these older scents and more importantly will they still work?? Or should i go buy new ones?? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
I have had some lures for over 10 years. I try to use new scents every year so i end up with left overs that I recycle now and then. As long as it is sealed it should last for a long time. I have some lure from about 15 years ago that i used last year. The coyotes and bobcats loved it. I can't really tell you what is in it because the labels is so degraded, but the point is it still worked.
Oh, I also replace urine every year. I haven't had much luck keeping it for more than a year.
