How do i clean a very rusted up shotgun?
I have an old shotgun that would like to referbish. However the outter part of the barrlel is pickled full of rust, i tryed lighty sanding the outer part of the barrel to remove rust. Is there some materials out there to coat the barrel again to protect it? A friend suggested not to paint the barrel. If you have any more insight for me please let me know.

First...get some abrasive cloth from a welding supply store.
next, once the rust has been removed polish the barrel on a polishing wheel, use some polishing compound.
next, wash the barrel in hot soap and water to get all that polish out of the pores
next , get some super blue or something like that (it's cold bluing) and follow the instuctions and then apply a good coat of oil and let stand overnight and wipe clean.

You can virtually purchase a case in any small town, at any sporting goods store and in any Wal-Mart nationwide. That being a true statement, it takes away every reason that you had for not buying a gun case in the first place.
The purchase price of less than twenty dollar for a hard plastic or than a soft cloth would go a long way in keeping your investment secure from scratches of even the hot cup of coffee you need to wake up with right before you hit that huge pothole in the middle of that dirt road. Most gun case range from under twenty dollars to around one hundred dollars.
When you are looking to make that purchase, there are many varieties; hard plastic cases, cloth cases, sleeves, aluminum case and a wooden gun case for my double barrel and over and under shotguns. What you want is a style of gun case that will keep your gun safe and protect it from the elements of Mother Nature. You can ask yourself, where am I hunting, how many guns will I need when I get there? Will I be carrying my gun by hand, walking and stalking or will I be riding a four-wheeler, jeep or horse?
You will be surprise that these gun cases are not that expense compared to the gun that they are designed to protect. Some aluminum gun cases and the wooden take down gun cases may cost a little more.
